I was born in 1965 and was
educated in London. I studied the violin from the age of six reaching grade
eight distinction. Thus my love of the violin started very early and it was
from a chance encounter with a violinmaker, while still a young teenager,
that I set my heart on becoming a luthier. I was repairing violins and
started making them at the age of fourteen.
After completing my A-levels in Music, Art and English I eventually
graduated from the Newark School of Violin Making, in England, with merit.
Straight after I went on to do work for Oxford Violins and Mila Strnad -
four years of valuable experience in repairing, restoration and re-touching.
My move to Chaconne Company, Japan in 1989 proved well worthwhile. I was
able to work on and study many of the finest instruments and bows, and
amassed a wealth of knowledge, particularly concerning set-ups and tone
adjustment.
I was invited again to Japan in 1997 to manage the workshop of Stradi
Kanazawa. In addition to doing much restoration and repair work, I was
commissioned to make a quartet of instruments and various replicas of
clients’ violins.
I have been permanently based in Cyprus with my wife and two daughters since
1999. The excellent climate and lifestyle here provide me with a wonderful
working atmosphere and environment. This is why many of my clients jump at
the chance to visit me to have their instruments repaired and/or serviced or
to place an order, and to spend a few days on a sunny Mediterranean island!
I too do my share of travelling and so consequently my clientele stretches
as far as the USA, most of Europe, the Far East, Australia and New Zealand!
